Last week Philippi celebrated 125 years of existence, so I thought it would
be fun for us to take a look back at what life was like in 1888.
Benjamin Harrison, a Republican, moved into the White House, serving as the 23rd President of the United States; the Vice President was Levi P. Morgan.
Do you know how much a gallon of gas cost in 1888? Nothing. Gasoline, as we know it, was invented in 1911. The most popular movie in 1888: there were none, but in 1888 Thomas Edison received the patent to make the first one.
1888 was a leap year; it contained the Blizzard of 1888, and Jack the Ripper was the most wanted man in America.
We have come a long way in 125 years, and Philippi has seen many changes. As we look toward the future, I pray that God will continue to bless this great church and see us through many more years!
