(Originally written 7/22/11) I recently wrote about the show Secret Life , and now I have decided to write about the show Family Guy. I am frequently asked about the content of this show, so I wanted to share a little bit about what I know. This show was actually cancelled in 2002 because of its crude, offensive content. Sadly, popular demand brought the show back. High DVD sales and ratings of reruns led to a rebirth of the show, which is ranked #1 among 12-34 year old viewers. The show follows the life of the family guy, Peter Griffin. Among the other characters are the talking family dog and the incredibly inappropriate baby Stewie. This show routinely mocks God and Jesus, frequently depicting them hanging out in bars to meet girls, even trying to impress them with their deity powers. (originally written 1/13/12) Satan has waged a war against the family, and his artillery of choice has been the media. By making fathers look like buffoons and husbands looking incompetent, the subtle message is made clear: children can talk back and disrespect because they are always right, and the woman has to run the home because her husband can’t possibly make a right decision. Shows like The Simpsons and Everybody Loves Raymond are guilty of this. Then there are the shows that promote the single life over the married life (I know that being is ok; that is not the point). Shows like How I Met Your Mother show guys who sleep with different women every night (Barney once celebrated the fact that he slept with his 1,000 th woman); the reality is people like this are miserable and would have more STD’s then there are names for. I want to let you know about a TV show your kids may be watching. But before I begin let me give a disclaimer. Some of you might get annoyed when I “tell you what you can and cannot watch.” If that is you then please never mind this. This is written to those parents who don’t want their children watching anything ungodly. The show is called Secret Life of the American Teenager, and it comes on ABC Family Channel (whose slogan is “A new kind of family”). To call this show awful would be a compliment. The show follows the lives of several teenagers in their high school, and most of the characters are just 16. One of those 16 year olds has a toddler and one is currently pregnant. There is a guy on the show who is known for being “the bad boy” who has slept with almost every girl in the school. The parents speak bluntly to their children about the kids’ sex lives, but only as a means of keeping up, not for the sake of putting a stop to it. And how could they? The parents are a...

This week both President Obama and Vice President Biden have come out in defense of gay marriage, which we all knew was going to happen before their first term ended. This blog is not about whether or not homosexuals should be allowed to get married, because I have written about that here and here . Instead, I want to focus on who got the credit for the “shift” in their stance. Joe Biden credits the 1998-2006 sitcom Will and Grace for doing “ more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody’s ever done so far. [i] ” If you aren’t familiar with that show, it featured a straight woman who lived with her gay male best friend; there was another homosexual man on the cast as well. And in case you aren’t familiar with the word sitcom, it means situation comedy, not to be confused with documentary. Popular issues in recent years have included “don’t ask, don’t tell,” and gay marriage and adoption. Where are Christians supposed to stand when it comes to giving more rights to homosexuals, especially in light of the command to love our neighbor as ourselves? What Christians have to realize about giving rights to homosexuals is that this is a direct assault on the family, which is something that God created and Satan loathes. Satan would have nothing more than to destroy the family unit, and he tries to negatively influence it through shows like Family Guy and Modern Family (click the show titles to read articles I have written on them). Giving homosexuals rights is far different than the civil rights movement, for it is not a sin to be a woman or black, but the Bible is very clear that homosexuality is an abomination to God (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13; Romans 1:26-32; I Corinthians 6:9).
