“If God is real, explain all the suffering in the world.” “If there really is a good and loving God, why doesn’t he stop bad people from doing bad things?” Questions like these are often used by atheists or agnostics to help them explain away the existence of God. There are very good answers to these difficult questions, and I frequently write about them in this space. But for many of us, we are not going to convince someone who is being argumentative; no answer will suffice, especially when the answer requires us to wade waist deep into the theological waters.  Instead of trying to explain why God allows what He allows, and thus play defense, we can turn that accusation around and go on offense. Doesn't the ability to think prove the existence of God? If you want to think hard, try thinking about thinking. How do you think? The scientific community has no generally accepted idea as to what thinking is and how thoughts are created. If you believe, then, that this mind-boggling idea called thinking is the result of some random chance luckiness, then you can conclude there is no God. But if you get the hunch that there just might be some intelligent design involved, then grab a cookie and admit there is a God.

Atheism has the power to stop wars? That's terrific news! So stop them. The person who made this graphic is once again falling victim to the belief that Christians cause all wars. As I have noted in the past, one suggestion that really bothers me is the one that asserts that evolutionists have all the brilliant minds on their side while Creationists get the ones too weak-minded to make it in academia. Darwinists act as if their team has all the jocks while we get the rejects, the ones not picked to play the game. One of the weapons in their arsenal of demonizing our side is the “comfort of religion” missile. The way this one works is by pointing to our belief in God as a crutch—as something we lean on because we are too scared to come to grips with the fact that we, and life, are meaningless. So we are said to be holding onto our precious comfort of religion like a child desperately contending that Santa Claus is real, even though he is beginning to see evidence to the contrary.
